Celebrate our regions history and heritage at the 16th annual Cumberland Heritage Faire! Explore a wide range of displays featuring local histories, genealogy, traditional craft making, antique tools, demonstrations, and so much more. Enjoy musical entertainment for the entire family from local favourites including the Old Time Fiddlers, Time for Uke, and the Barbershop Quartet. Stop by the concession for a homemade lunch. The Faire takes place 10am – 4pm in the Cumberland OAP Hall and Cultural Centre at 1st Street and Dunsmuir Avenue. Admission is by donation. New Rotary Club starting in Comox Valley – Monday, 29 Jan, 7pm @ Old House

There will be a new Rotary club starting in the Comox Valley. At 7pm on Monday, January 29, at the Old House Hotel and Spa, the group will meet to officially charter the club and affirm the inaugural leadership team.

Rotary is an international organization with over 1.2 million members and 35,000 clubs around the world. The goal of Rotary is to bring together people to exchange ideas, form friendships and connections while taking action to make positive contributions to their communities.

Camp Boomer 2018: now recruiting!

After a successful decade, the epic Boomer’s Legacy BC Bike Ride from 19 Wing Comox to Victoria has been replaced by an exciting single day event!

Introducing Camp Boomer! The new format will enable everyone to participate in this worthwhile charity under the Canadian Forces Support Our Troops program.

Camp Boomer will take place on Saturday, June16 June at Glacier Gardens Arena at 19 Wing Comox. Based on a military theme, participants will have six hours to walk, run or cycle two mapped routes. Entry into the event will entail a registration fee to cover expenses, as well as a minimum pledge amount.

Installation of UV equipment marks an important milestone for the Water Treatment Project

Up to 80 per cent of boil water notices will be avoided with new temporary measure
The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) completed installation of interim ultraviolet (UV) treatment system at its chlorination station on Friday, January 19 which helped avoid a boil water notice over the weekend. The Regional District is now awaiting changes to its operating permit but given the weather forecast, Island Health has granted the CVRD temporary permission to use the system.

CVRD kicks off 2018-2022 financial planning process

Tuesday night the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) board officially kicked off the New Year with the start of their 2018-2022 financial planning process.

At the start of 2018, the CVRD will be managing 102 services across the region. These services range from water, sewer and solid waste to parks, recreation and even street lighting. Within this year’s financial planning process the emphasis is on critical capital projects including the new water treatment filtration system and civic infrastructure.

Significant Upgrades to 5th Street Set to Start this Spring

Informed by extensive public input, including a temporary “pop-up “intersection this past summer, over $3.2 million in infrastructure upgrades to 5th Street will start this spring. Come fall, 5th Street will be an attractive gateway to downtown Courtenay and walking, and cycling routes on the corridor will be significantly improved.

An information session will be held for citizens, businesses and community groups to learn more about the final design, results of the “pop up” intersection study, and what to expect during construction.
