
Boil Water Notice Issued For The Comox Valley Water System
The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD), in conjunction with Island Health, has issued a boil water notice effective immediately. For details see the news release issued January 3, 2019. Who is Affected? Boil Water Notices apply only to those communities that are connected to the Comox Valley Water System.
CVRD and USW Approve New Collective Agreement
The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) and United Steel Workers (USW) Union Local 1-1937 both ratified the new collective agreement late December 2018. Negotiations began in January 2018 to address amendments to the Collective Agreement. In November, a mediator was assigned to assist discussions in reaching a collective agreement between the CVRD and its recreation facilities staff, represented by USW Local 1-1937. On December 11, 2018 a tentative agreement was reached with ratification from both parties occurring December 21, 2018.
Free New Year’s Eve Swim and Skate
The Comox Valley Regional District, Tim Hortons and 97.3 The Eagle have teamed up again this year to offer a free family Swim and Skate this New Year’s Eve at the Comox Valley Sports Centre from 5 – 8 pm. Enjoy goodies, compliments of Tim Hortons, as well as amazing prize packs given out throughout the evening – plus enjoy games and festivities for all ages. Donations to the Comox Valley Food Bank will be accepted. Skate rentals are also free however it’s recommended to come early.
Wood Stove Exchange Program Expands
More Comox Valley residents now have access to rebates from the wood stove exchange program as announced by the Province this week. Additional funding has been provided to the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) to not only continue administering the exchange program, but to provide higher rebates to homeowners that want to move away from wood burning all together and install a cleaner-burning heating source.
Greenwood Trunk Sewer Line Construction Now Complete
An important stretch of new sewer line diverting wastewater from East Courtenay has been successfully installed. Construction on the new gravity main, called the Greenwood Trunk, began in June and has wrapped up on schedule. The line will reduce pressure on existing sewer service infrastructure by directing wastewater from East Courtenay away from the Courtenay Pump Station to an existing sewer trunk main along Knight Road. From there, wastewater will flow directly to the sewage treatment plant located on Brent Road.

Transit riders in the Comox Valley are invited to enjoy some festive refreshments and enter to win great prizes on Friday, December 14 at a Comox Valley Transit Rider Appreciation Day event.
CVRD and CUPE 556 agree on two year agreement
The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) and CUPE 556, union local representing approximately 84 employees have agreed on a new two year collective agreement. On ratification, it will provide continued labour relations stability within our CUPE staffed services in the CVRD.
