Mostly Watercolours, showcasing local artists Trisha Scarlett Milne and Heather Wilkinson, runs July 16-August 3 at the Pearl Ellis Gallery in Comox. The artists are friends with much in common: both are excited by watercolour, have traveled widely, live in the Comox Valley and winter in La Manzanilla, Mexico.
The McLoughlin Gardens Society is pleased to welcome poet and scholar Maleea Acker as our 2019 Writer-in-Residence. Like previous writers at the McLoughlin Gardens, Anne Simpson and Arleen Paré, Maleea’s work reveals a profound attentiveness to the natural world. As a teacher and scholar, she invites her students to explore their own relationship to place.
Join us on the CVAG plaza tomorrow, Wednesday July 10th from 3 pm to 7 pm, for a “Tiny Homes” Community Make Art Project led by artist D Gillian Turner. Everyone is welcome to this all-ages event, where the artist will lead participants in the construction of small ceramic homes. Admission is free, with donations gratefully accepted.

This Thursday July 4th is the first event in the new Elevate Summer Concert Series bringing FREE community music nights right to the heart of Cumberland! Every Thursday from July 4 to August 15th the community is invited to Village Square for warm summer evenings filled with exceptional music from visiting and local artists. The Elevate Summer Concert Series is a project of the Elevate Consortium with in partnership with Cumberland Village Works, The Waverley Hotel and the Village of Cumberland.
Local author Anny Scoones will be at the Laughing Oyster Bookshop on Saturday, July 13th with her new book Island Home, Out and About on Vancouver Island, a humorous collection of essays about the island’s unique quirks.
