While Spring has been taking its time arriving in the Comox Valley, members of the Comox Valley Photographic Society (CVPS) have been busy creating images for their upcoming Spring Showcase, which runs from May 16th through June 1st at the Pearl Ellis Gallery of Fine Arts in Comox.

Over 50 prints will be on display, showcasing the work of 21 CVPS members. Visitors can expect to see powerful colour and black and white images that cover subjects ranging from landscapes, to wildlife, cityscapes, portraits and abstracts. The display is an eclectic collection that will be sure to impress visitors to the Gallery.

Many of the images were taken on local club field trips, but others were shot across Canada and as far away as Africa and South America. “This Showcase may well be the best yet,” said CVPS President Kerry Dawson. “Each year the talent on display just gets better and better.”

With over 110 members, the CVPS has photographers of all skill levels who meet twice a month at the Little Red Church in Comox. The CVPS Education meeting night, as well as the Competition nights, encourage members to reach beyond their comfort zone, and to learn and grow as photographers.

A reception for the show will be held Saturday, May 27 from 1-4 pm at the Gallery. Everyone is welcome to attend to meet the photographers, enjoy light refreshments and view the fine display of local talent. Learn how the images were created, what advice the photographers may have, and how their photographic skills have evolved. Artists will be available throughout the show to answer questions.

The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday, and 1-4 pm on Sunday. It is closed Mondays. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
The Gallery is at 1729 Comox Ave. in Comox. Tour the virtual gallery at www.pearlellisgallery.com.
