Jack Duckworth’s interest and talent for art emerged naturally in his younger years living in Duncan, BC. Family and vocation brought an extended hiatus while serving pastoral and campus Christian missions on the Vancouver Island and in Winnipeg, and teaching practical theology modules overseas in Ukraine, Armenia, Amsterdam, and Haiti. In retirement, his artistic interests were rekindled. He receives great joy from the colours and rhythms that come with painting landscapes, seascape, and village scenes locally, and from travels in Canada and overseas. Now living in Nanaimo with his wife, he is becoming established as an artist.

An exhibition of his paintings, entitled “Our Island” will show at the Pearl Ellis Gallery from July 22-August 14.

The Pearl Ellis Art Gallery is located at 1729 Comox Avenue in Comox. The Gallery is currently open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 12:00 noon-4:00 pm with COVID protocols in place. Gallery capacity is limited to six people at a time.

Blind Tiger Comedy Inviting People From Communities That Are Underrepresented In Comedy To Try Classes

This is the most recent in a string of efforts and initiatives by the Directors of Blind Tiger to break down barriers to access and create space for traditionally sidelined or marginalized people in comedy. At a time where most could sorely use humour in their lives, this exciting creative outlet is being offered online through the Blind Tiger Comedy Digital School and also (for the first time in over a year) In Person at their new safety-first Fresh Air space at the NextDoor Gallery in Vancouver.
