Different Together Pledge

Different Together Pledge

Please help us in spreading the word that racism and hatred have no place in our community by taking the “Different Together Pledge”. By taking the pledge and sharing it on social media we can raise awareness while encouraging others to participate.

Poetry with Purpose – Indifference

I have a dream where my fellow human beings
nurtured by the sweet scents of the forest
finally learn to share the treasures of the land
and recognize the oneness of our bodies,
the wisdom of our collective minds,
and the compassion of our wounded hearts.

Climbing the Author Ladder

I was beside myself with joy and gratitude because this was yet another example of how the Law of Attraction comes through when you know how to work it. In my case I simply invite the unexpected and then welcome it with open arms. I’m usually very selective about what I invite – because that’s what I manifest. What we focus our energy on often shows up in our lives, positive or negative. So watch your thoughts!

Just Do It—Saving Our Earth One Bicycle At A Time

It may seem a daunting task but it is hardly more difficult than nonviolently expelling the British from India. It’s about having the gumption to say no to our atmosphere polluting planes and automobiles and say yes to the healthy for people and planet transportation by bicycles. The thing I like most about this ride a bike; save our Earth and its peoples idea is that we don’t need anyone to organize us or tell us it is ok to act now or organize us. We can just go do it!

Free Overdose Prevention Workshop Planned for Cumberland

Free Overdose Prevention Workshop Planned for Cumberland

Earlier this month, British Columbia marked the fifth anniversary of its declaration of a public health emergency over the opioid crisis, yet the crisis shows no signs of abating. More than 7,000 people have died in the province since 2016, and last year’s total of 1,724 lives lost was the worst on record.

United Way’s Period Promise Campaign helps local people who menstruate get access to the product they need

United Way’s Period Promise Campaign helps local people who menstruate get access to the product they need

“I was homeless as a teenager and later, I was a low-income single mother. I remember doing
everything I could to make my supplies stretch- when I was homeless I would often steal
tampons after trying to find some for free. When I was a young, poor single mother, every
penny spent was towards my daughter- I would bus for hours to try to find free menstrual
supplies. I would use old rags. I would wear a tampon for way, way longer than I should’ve. It
was food for my baby or tampons, so I chose food for my baby.”

Realizing that many new subscribers will not have seen some of these notes in previous years, here is a roundup on common pests at this time of year and what to do about them:

New Wing Commander at 19 Wing Comox

New Wing Commander at 19 Wing Comox

“Returning to 19 Wing Comox as Wing Commander is a privilege and honour. I look forward to working again with the people of 19 Wing Comox and the Comox Valley. In the near future, the base will be complemented by the adoption of the CC-295 Kingfisher (the newest fixed wing search and rescue aircraft) and a new role as the centre of excellence for search and rescue training. I am eagerly awaiting these new capabilities. And as you would expect, the great team at 19 Wing will continue to work hard in providing Canadians the best possible support for maritime patrol, NORAD, search and rescue and in the day-to-day workings of the base.””

New Denman Island Childcare Facility Opens

New Denman Island Childcare Facility Opens

A new childcare facility located on the Denman Island Community School site officially opened Tuesday, April 6, providing 20 additional spaces for children ages 12 months to 5 years. The facility was made possible from the Childcare BC New Spaces grant, a program the province developed to fund the creation of 22,000 licensed childcare spaces throughout B.C.

Poetry with Purpose – Back to Sanity

Poetry with Purpose – Back to Sanity

In his book, Back to Sanity, Steve Taylor focuses on cognitive discord that he refers to as mind chatter. According to Taylor, human minds have two focuses – the inside and the outside. When our mind is focused on an outside task or activity we have what he calls positive mind flow. Our energy is focused and we experience a feeling of mental well-being. When our minds are disengaged, mind chatter begins. For the most part it involves absorption in negative thoughts and negative energy patterns that drain our mental energy and cause anxiety and frustration.

Poetry with Purpose – Living Through Earthquakes

Poetry with Purpose – Living Through Earthquakes

Not sure where Deep Bay got its name but it might have been from the 1946 earthquake that caused the bottom of Deep Bay to sink up to 84 feet in places. The quake struck Vancouver Island with a magnitude of 7.3 on the Richter Scale, the strongest quake ever recorded on land in Canada. The main shock epicenter occurred in the Forbidden Plateau area northwest of Courtenay. This was one of the most damaging earthquakes in the history of British Columbia, but damage was restricted mainly to property because the area was sparsely populated at that time. The Forbidden Plateau Quake was the last big quake on the island.

Empower Yourself

Empower Yourself

I would like to say that as a transformational coach I meet many people who feel lost and are overwhelmed by the things that aren’t working in their lives. My advice to them is the same as Anita’s: love and appreciate yourself unreservedly. Count your gifts and your blessings. It may be hard at first but if you persist, you may see positive changes in your health and your environment.
