Exciting news today for the Comox Valley and wider region as WestJet CEO Ed Sims announced non-stop Comox (YQQ) to Toronto (YYZ) service commencing June 26th , as part of 11 new city pairings.

“This is the first-long haul domestic service for Comox, and we couldn’t be more pleased” said airport CEO Mike Atkins. “The increasingly successful vaccine rollout allows us to envision the lifting of travel restrictions, and this new route will aid in us reconnecting with friends and family back East.”

The YQQ Ready plan remains in effect at the airport, to ensure the safety of passengers and staff, and our air carriers will maintain their enhanced protocols to ensure onboard safety.

Today’s announcement follows WestJet’s planned resumption of service to the Atlantic provinces. With the addition of the new city pairings, we are cautiously optimistic that our tourism sector, and broader economy, will be able to benefit from this new capacity as soon as domestic travel restrictions are lifted.

WestJet has relaxed their change and cancellation policies to make it easer to manage travel impacted by COVID-19. Travellers are encouraged to start planning now, as they can book flights confidently with flexible options in the event travel restrictions remain in effect beyond the Canada Day weekend.
