The Comox Valley Art Gallery is bustling with activity as we get set to re-open after a two-week closure to paint and install. Our winter program SPACE BETWEEN US will run until the end of February.
In these extraordinary times, our winter program will look different than in previous years.
Due to COVID-19, our hours of operation will be limited to Thursday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm. (Except for for the final two weeks of December, when we will open Dec. 22+23 from 10am to 5pm, Dec. 24 from 10am to 3pm, and close from Christmas to New Years).
Instead of our annual Winter Art Market, we’ve expanded SHOP:MADE, adding seasonal artwork and featuring new makers.
The SPACE BETWEEN US thematic program will include public exhibition, ongoing artistic incubators residencies, publications, and on-line events.
As part of the program, the work of Foroozan Taleifard will be installed in the CVAG Window Gallery.
The NIC STUDENT INCUBATOR features work by Sculpture and Integrated Art Practice students from North Island College. This work, as well as publications in progress as part of the CVAG BOOK PROJECT INCUBATOR, will be open to the public at points during the winter program. (Check our website or FaceBook page for details.)
We have artist Shelley Vandberbyl working in our Project Room Studio as part of an ONSITE/OFFSITE RESEARCH INCUBATOR + PRODUCTION RESIDENCY. This incubator and residency incorporates conversations and collaborations with ALL ART NOW curator Abir Bourkhari (Sweden), local and international artists, and the CVAG curators. Collaborative offsite research and development will be made visible, over time and the space between us, through virtual and onsite presentation. Stay tuned for details.
EVERYBODY DESERVES A SMILE, an arts-based outreach program created by Comox Valley students, features “envelopes of love” to be filled with small items and gift cards that will be delivered to those in need this Christmas. These will be on display in the CVAG lobby until Dec. 8.
