Child Haven International has held a vegetarian dinner fundraiser event in the Comox Valley since 2003. Due to the pandemic, this is not possible this year so we have made it to go.

On Friday October 16 at 5PM, we will be providing dinner for four prepared by Rikhi Datt of 4 Quarters Restaurant in Cumberland whose father was a chef in the India Embassy in Ottawa. You can pick it up at the 3rd ST side of the Courtenay Legion on 367 Cliff Ave.

This is in support of Child Havens mission of providing homes for children around the world.

Child Haven supports more than 1300 children in “large families.” These children are not for adoption but are given food, clothing, education, health care and shelter. There are nine homes in four countries: Tibet, Nepal, India and Bangladesh. As well, Child Haven supports many women’s projects and elderly people.

The money for the ongoing running of the homes is usually garnered by dinners across Canada, which sells goods that are bought by Bonnie at a fair price in these countries. Bonnie usually visits all the homes 4 times a year. This year due to COVID, the dinners as well as Bonnie’s travel have been canceled. There may as well be requests of children needing admission to homes due to COVID.

Child Haven has a very low overhead so that the majority of the money goes directly to the homes.

Dinners for four are $50 on October 16th at 5 pm at the Courtenay Legion. Pre-pay by e-transfer to reserve your dinner. Social distancing will be practiced.
