– Comox Valley Schools is proud to be the first recipient of the Indigo Love of Reading (LOR) Community Response Fund Grant.

The grant, a total of $30,100 worth of books and learning material, will help give Valley families better access to educational resources and inspire the love of reading.

Lesley Johnson, District Teacher-Librarian, successfully pursued the grant application and purchased each of the item that are now being delivered to schools throughout the Valley including Airport Elementary, Arden, Aspen, Courtenay Elementary, Cumberland Community, Ecole Puntledge Park, Huband Park, as well as our secondary schools.

After a series of rigorous judging rounds, the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation announced in May that Comox Valley Schools’ application had been not only approved but selected as the first recipient of this very special and unique award.

“The grant will give many District families better access to books and educational resources that they may not have been able to acquire during the COVID-19 pandemic,” explained Johnson. “ With public libraries closed for the immediate future, we are particularly challenged and delighted to bring the love of reading home to many of our students and their families during this difficult time.”

Since 2004, the Indigo Love of Reading Foundation has been dedicated to putting books in the hands of Canadian children at high-needs schools – a commitment to transforming the lives of children across the country and inspiring a love of reading. Indigo has committed $31 million to over 3,000 schools, benefiting more than 1,000,000 children.
