Comox Valley Schools is prohibiting the use of all District school playgrounds until further notice as an additional precautionary measure to stop the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in our community.

The District will not allow the use of any play structure located on school property during normal school hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. These restrictions will remain in effect outside of school hours in  conjunction with the restrictions put in place by local municipalities.

The Town of Comox, the City of Courtenay and the Village of Cumberland and the Regional District have all stipulated playgrounds in parks are prohibited from use at all times.

“These are important and necessary measures we are taking to coincide with the direction given by our municipal leaders,” expressed Tom Demeo, Superintendent of Schools. “It won’t last forever, as we are told by the Provincial Health Officer, but our vigilant approach in regulating our activity in public places and spaces will help in containing the virus and stopping its spread. The health or our students, staff and families is a top priority and by adding these new measures we are doing our civic duty.”

Comox Valley Schools will place signage on all playground areas located on school properties to remind the community of these restriction.
