Artist & graphic designer, Marci Katz, shares insights and stories from her life long creative career. Thursday, March 12, 1pm at Comox Valley Arts Boardroom – upstairs at 580 Duncan Ave, in Downtown Courtenay.

“My life, like most others, has been touched by trauma, joy, loss, confusion, disappointments and crisis. To my surprise, I’ve discovered that over the course of my long art career, life’s disturbances have been inspirational in dramatic and unexpected ways. Great and sometimes unwelcome change has led to experimentation and growth in both technique and content, and led me to a deeper understanding of creative process in general.”

We ask a series of questions from our artists:
Who Are you? What do you do?
Visual artist, specializing in mixed media drawings. I combine layers of ink, charcoal and pastel to create multi-layered portraiture.
How did you get there?
Decades of hard work and experimentation.
What was your transformational experience?
Mid-life trauma led to a major departure from realism to largely symbolic work. Now both those aspects have been consolidated into all my work.
What is your biggest success?
One of my drawings inspired a fine arts public school to write and perform a play named after it.
