The Comox Valley Art Gallery will celebrate its 2019 winter program ROOT LOVE on Saturday, Dec. 7, with an open house and discounts on all items in the Winter Art Market.
The Gallery will serve cake and refreshments from 1 to 5pm. Discounts of 10 per cent for visitors or 15 per cent for CVAG members will be offered throughout the day.
ROOT LOVE is a thematic program that includes the 45 annual Winter Art Market, the longest-running holiday fair in the Comox Valley. The market features a large selection of well-made-things created by dozens of artists and craftspeople throughout the region.
ROOT LOVE also features a “live window” exhibition of plants rooted in water. It can be viewed all hours from the CVAG plaza.
Physica, an installation by Clea Minaker, will be installed in CVAG’s George Sawchuk room.
During the winter program, Connie Michele Morey will be in housed the CVAG Next Door artist residency from until Dec. 11, for Project Homesick / Roof (Over My Head). She will conduct site-specific creative research in CVAG’s GATHER:PLACE, on the gallery plaza and throughout the community.
Ecole Puntledge School students’ art-based Everybody Deserves a Smile project is presented in the CVAG Community Gallery to Dec. 9. This community campaign that receives donations of toques, hats, mitts, socks and neck-warmers for gifting. Each hand-painted bag is filled by the students at the end of the donation period then distributed to those in need.
Students in the North Island College Fine Art and Design Program will present work in GATHER:PLACE beginning Dec. 12, along with pop-up presentations in CVAG’s Project room Studio and Community Gallery.
CVAG will host a Community Make Art Project Event and Solstice Celebration on Friday Dec. 20 from noon to 9pm. A plant-sharing project will be part of the evening’s events. Visitors are invited to bring a plant and take a plant (please avoid invasive species).
