Choral Valley is holding it’s sixth annual Fall Choir Festival Saturday Nov. 2nd, 12:30-5:30, at the Comox Pentecostal Church (1919 Guthrie Rd). Six choirs will be participating, including 3 local groups, a high school choir from West Vancouver, an adult community choir from Victoria, and the Campbell River Children’s Choir. Each ensemble will perform 3 songs and then receive an on-stage clinic with expert choral director, Allison Girvan, from Nelson, BC. Audience members are invited to watch the festival. Festival admission is by donation.
“Allison’s choirs consistently perform with palpable heart and soul,” says festival organizer, Wendy Nixon Stothert. “The music that emanates from them is so touching that I am always moved to tears and shivers when I hear them. This type of deep connection is directly related to Allison’s soulful and rich musical coaching. She is a pleasure to work with. ”
Individual singers are invited to take part in a Vocal Workshop with Allison in the morning from 10-11:30. The last Choral Valley workshop sold out, so if you’re interested, you’re encouraged to sign up ahead of time and get more info at www.choralvalley.ca.
Allison Girvan’s music career has seen experience as a professional singer, arranger, director, and clinician. She has been a featured soloist on recordings and in performance with many revered choral ensembles including musica intima, Elektra Women’s Choir, and The Vancouver Chamber Choir, as a vocalist for studio sessions for radio, T.V. and feature film. Her latest CD, Fishing By the Light of the Ancestors, was released in 2014. Her greatest passion is working with youth; she leads 4 youth choirs in Nelson. The city has named Allison as Nelson’s Cultural Ambassador for 2019.
The Comox Valley is bursting with singers. All ages and experience levels are welcome at these events.
