MP Gord Johns (Courtenay-Alberni) is inviting the public to a Green New Deal for Canada Town Hall discussion with NDP House Leader Peter Julian at the Florence Filberg Centre in Courtenay on July 25 from 7 pm to 9 pm.
“Ambitious, science-based greenhouse gas reductions targets are required to help stabilize the global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius”. “Peter Julian and I are looking forward to engaging local citizens in a discussion of a Green New Deal that will include a sustainable green economy with more opportunities for workers, not less.”
This is the third major climate Town Hall organized by Mr. Johns since his election in 2015. “As with our previous public meetings, there will be lots of opportunity for participants to ask questions and express their own ideas and opinions”, MP Johns said. “Delay and denial have left us unprepared as the world moves towards a low-carbon future and we need to hear from all sides about a Green New Deal”, he added.
During his term as Member of Parliament for Courtenay-Alberni, Mr. Johns has hosted more than twenty-five public Town Halls on a variety of issues of concern to his constituents.
