On behalf of Council and the residents of the Town of Comox, we want to wish Freeman of the Town ‘Stocky” Edwards a very Happy 98th Birthday. James F. ‘Stocky” Edwards a former Canadian fighter pilot during World War II and Canada’s highest scoring ace in the Western Desert Campaign celebrated his 98th birthday on June 5th.

To honour Stocky’s distinguished service to his country and the community of Comox, Council [in June 2007] conferred upon “Stocky” the highest honour that a municipality may bestow upon a person – the honour of Freedom of the Municipality.

“Upon retirement and moving to the Comox Valley, we have continued to benefit from Stocky’s presence”, said Mayor Arnott. “Stocky continues to be actively involved in many
community events and it is an honour to have such an accomplished war veteran and community minded individual in our midst.”

Married to his wife Toni, they enjoy their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Please join me in wishing Stocky a very happy birthday and we wish him many more to come.

Russ Arnott

Mayor, Town of Comox
