Alcohol Use In The Valley

The Community Health Network, in partnership with the Community Drug Strategy Committee and the John Howard Society of the North Island held an interactive and informative evening with author Harold Johnson, His book, “Firewater – How Alcohol is Killing My People (and Yours)” challenges all of us to “change the story we tell ourselves about alcohol.” His passionate, heartfelt talk, to a full house at the Stan Hagen theatre, had the room enthralled. Many people spoke afterwards of their own experiences with alcohol. We look forward to continuing this conversation with our partners in the community.

Making Connections

We have been collaborating with Glacier View Lodge, Providence Health Care, the Coalition to End Homelessness, Elders Take Action and the Comox Valley Seniors Table, to develop a process that includes seniors themselves to develop seniors housing solutions and promote seniors wellness in the region.

We’ve also been working with the Division of Family Practice to promote physical activity through a partnership with local recreation facilities and the Walk with Your Doc Events – at 11:45 am on May 7th (Courtenay Airpark) and 9th (Comox Marina).

A Big Thank You

To our practicum student, Isha Matous-Gibbs, from the University of Victoria’s Health and Community Services Undergraduate Degree Program. We can’t thank you enough for your hard work and dedication. We wish you the very best in all you do!
