On Saturday, March 16th, it is time to be bold, kiss the Blarney Stone, and scurry on over to the Big Yellow Merville hall for the Ever Famous St Paddy’s Day Contra Dance.  Green music, green beer, green gills.

On a Vancouver Island stopover from their (small) World Tour of the Comox Valley, the Funtime Fiddlers band will pump out the jigs and reels for their highly popular contra dances.  Lead by our own ontological dance caller, June O’Cannon, you’ll not regret the decision to be Irish for the Night!  All are welcome to attend this family friendly o’function.

All are invited to toast the Luck ‘o’ the Irish and, if you can still walk, to participate in a brief, Contra Dance workshop right before the main dance.  From 7:00 to 7:29, Miss O’Cannon will introduce the lucky dancers to new moves, as well as review the basic ones.

At 7:30, waving their shillelaghs about their heads, the fluthered Funtime Fiddlers will leap onto the stage, scattering gold dust all ‘round, strike the first notes and the gaiety begins.  Singles can pair up with anyone, male or female, during the Contras, with the Contra sets lasting about 15 to 20 minutes.  In between the called Contra dances, we’ll play a variety of dance tunes for you.  Wear green; win a Spot Dance prize; wink, grin and click your heels.

So, Saturday, March 16th, join the other lucky Irish toppers coming from Upper Black Creek to Lower Comox, at the Big Yellow Merville Dance Hall, right on the Old Island Highway, between Campbell River and Courtenay.  Doors open at 7:00, dance starts at 7:30pm.  Cost is $10.00/adults, $5.00/youth (6 and under free) and you can come as a family for $22.00.   Free workshop starts at 7:00.  Slainte!
