2 Weeks Left to Submit a Film to Reel Youth Film Festival

Jan 31, 2019 | Film Festival, News | 0 comments

The Reel Youth Film Festival (RYFF) in conjunction with the Cumberland Community Schools Society (CCSS) is seeking out film submissions from local youth.

“We have had a great response to the 2019 Reel Youth Film Festival and already have three local films to include. There are still two weeks left to submit a film and we want to ensure that all youth filmmakers have a chance to participate,” said Kate Ashton, Program Coordinator for Cumberland Community Schools Society. “You don’t need a fancy camera or lighting equipment; we have seen some really funny films created and edited on cellphones. This is a great opportunity for youth to showcase their creativity.”

Each film should be between 3-5 minutes long, and be created by youth 19 and under. Adult help is permitted, but must be disclosed on the submission form. Submission forms and more information can be found by emailing Kate Ashton at   The submission deadline is February 8th, 2019.

The Reel Youth Film Festival is being hosted by Cumberland youth as a fundraiser for the CCSS Youth Centre. The festival will take place March 2nd, 2019 at the Cumberland Community School.

The Reel Youth Film Festival is a non- profit whose mandate is to empower young voices through media arts. They put out a yearly call for submissions; then gather the best films, and a youth council votes on the ones to be shown at the opening of the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF,) and across the country on their film festival tour.  Local films will be shown at our festival and then forwarded to the RYFF Youth Council for application to next year’s touring festival.
