The 28th World Community Film Festival is just around the corner and the Comox Valley is invited to Downtown Courtenay on February Feb. 1 and 2, 2019 to experience over 30 engaging and inspiring documentaries that showcase social and environmental justice stories from across Canada and around the world! This critically acclaimed film festival is an incredible place to fuel your passions for community and planetary well being.
Four downtown Courtenay venues offer film options on Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm covering topics ranging from indigenous issues, human rights and music as a tool for change to climate, forest protection, environmental action, and resilience in communities around the world. Families can take in a Mini Family Film Fest with a collection of lovely short films from 1:00 to 2:30. Visit the Community Action Hive at the World Community Film Festival located in the Filberg Hall. Connect with the organizations who are making change right here in the Comox Valley. Meet activists, organizers and boots on the ground volunteers from local environmental, social justice and service organizations.
Visit the Local Democracy Corner and chat about social justice, community development and environmental issues with locally elected folks from our communities. Grab a delicious lunch or a quick snack from the Elevate Canteen (with 50% canteen proceeds supporting the CV Transition Society) and check out the buzz on local projects, exciting initiatives, engagement opportunities and ways to be part of the change we wish to see in the world, right here in our community! AND…..World Community Feast!
Join us for a delicious vegetarian feast on Saturday Night at the World Community Film Festival. This annual feast is a wonderful place to gather connect and reflect on the incredible stories shared at the 2019 festival. The World Community Feast is served in time for those heading off to the closing Saturday night film and open to the community at large as well!.
Chef Bobby Herron and his Elevate Crew will be preparing an eclectic feast of curries from West Indies, North Africa, and India. Starter course at each table will feature baked pakoras with spiced tomato lentil dip and pickled vegetables. Dinner is served with jasmine rice, black eyed peas, locally made na’an bread, green salad and a selection of chutneys, pickle and raita. This event is licensed and includes dessert (with GF options). Limited tickets are available for the World Community Feast! Tickets are $22.
