In November, G.P. Vanier’s Jack Chapter held a Smash the Stigma event to bring awareness to mental health issues in youth. The symbolic event involving the annihilation of pumpkins was designed to encourage students to bring forward their concerns and break the barriers for positive communication and support on a serious matter many people of all ages struggle with in Canada. The attached News Release is a recap of the event and gives details on the Jack.org charity organization and the efforts at Vanier.
On Vancouver Island, there are only two Jack Chapters, one of which is held at the secondary level. Most Jack Chapter across Canada are organized for post-secondary students but an increasing number of secondary schools are getting involved.
