Comox Valley Schools learned that three young ladies leading the Comox Valley’s Jack.Org Chapter are finalists for the Youth Rock Award presented by the Chamber of Commerce. Finalists are G.P. Vanier Grade 12 students Nicolette Vinnedge, Madison Judson and Kirsten Johnson.

In November, G.P. Vanier’s Jack Chapter held a Smash the Stigma event to bring awareness to mental health issues in youth. The symbolic event involving the annihilation of pumpkins was designed to encourage students to bring forward their concerns and break the barriers for positive communication and support on a serious matter many people of all ages struggle with in Canada. The attached News Release is a recap of the event and gives details on the charity organization and the efforts at Vanier.

On Vancouver Island, there are only two Jack Chapters, one of which is held at the secondary level. Most Jack Chapter across Canada are organized for post-secondary students but an increasing number of secondary schools are getting involved.
