Two music teachers, Nancy Cox and Dale Hallier from Highland Secondary School, in the Comox Valley School District 71, are recent recipients of the British Columbia Music Educators Association (BCMEA) Award for outstanding contribution and dedication to music education locally and provincially and for influence in music education curriculum, professional development and program development. Both were nominated by Regan Livingstone, a former student who is now a music teacher. The BCMEA is focused on building a caring, collaborative community of passionate music educators through professional development and, ultimately, for the benefit of students.
In conjunction with the other Provincial Specialist Associations, the BCMEA holds its annual conference in October of each year. The 2018 conference is their principal professional development program. The conference is prepared and organized for BC teachers, by BC teachers. Music Educators who work with students or young people in the communities across British Columbia benefit from attending and participating in this event, where they are also recognized by their peers during the awards ceremony.
