The Black Creek Community Centre is bringin’ ball lovers of all ages together for a one-day celebration of the sport!
The Black Creek Community Centre is excited to be hosting Bringin’ Ball Back to the Creek, a Softball celebration tournament, this coming Saturday June 16th from 9:30am-6pm at the baseball diamond at 2001 Black Creek Rd.
The Black Creek and surrounding areas have a long history of playing ball right on the very field where our event will take place. Some archival photos show community baseball gatherings dating back to the 1930’s. While local adult teams stopped playing Slo pitch games here a few years ago, the community is seeing a resurgence in the sport, with many local families signing their kids up for the Black Creek Bears Softball program.
Earlier this year, staff from the Black Creek Community Centre met with Cristi Sacht, one of the Black Creek Bears Softball coaches. Together, they wanted to bring the community of local softball enthusiasts together to celebrate the sport. Once we opened up adult team registration for the day, we had a great response from the community who couldn’t wait to reunite with their old teammates and friends for the day.
The day will start off with a T-Ball game from 9:30-10:30am, and then the Black Creek Bears will play Campbell River Softball for their season Wind-up game from 11am-12:30pm. Spectators are welcome to come and cheer on the kids and then stick around to watch the adult slo-pitch tournament between 1pm-6pm. Amazing volunteers from the Black Creek Community Centre will be in full force grilling up hot dogs, serving beer in the beverage garden and selling 50/50 tickets all afternoon, in true baseball style. All funds raised from these activities will support the Black Creek Community Association in continuing to offer a wide variety of recreational opportunities for all ages.
This event is sure to be a HOME RUN day in the Creek! Don’t Strike Out and miss this day of fun in the sun in Black Creek.
