Do you have a vision for the Town of Comox? Have you had ideas about your community, but were uncertain about how to share them? The next municipal election will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20. It’s time to start thinking about how you can play an active part in shaping the future of Comox.

A public forum at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8 at the Comox Golf Club will discuss how you can make an important contribution to the democratic process and have a positive impact on your community.

The forum’s featured speaker is Cumberland Mayor Leslie Baird, who has been a council member and mayor for the last 28 continuous years. She was first elected to council in 1990 and as mayor in 2014.
Baird will explain the role and responsibilities of a municipal council member, why she has devoted so much of her life to public office and how she balances her political and personal lives. There will also be a question-and-answer period following her presentation.

A citizen group calling itself Comox Tomorrow has organized the forum. They are one of two citizen groups in Comox working to improve voter turnout and encourage residents to consider running for office.
Ken McDonald, a spokesman for the group said, “We need citizens and candidates with vision who will help us build the Comox of tomorrow.”

If you are thinking about taking an active role in this fall’s election campaigns, or even running for office yourself, this is a must-attend session for information and, potentially, for support.”
