Merville at 100 Years

In April 2019, the Merville Soldiers’ Settlement community will be 100 years old. Time for a birthday party! But first we have to organize it, right?

On Thursday, March 29th, the Merville hall will be open for the first meeting for the planning of the event. From 7:00 to 8:00, the Merville Community Association Board will go over plans for renovating the 3 acre site to get it ready for the big centennial celebration in October, 2019.

Young Filmmaker’s screening: “Film for Thought,” April 13

“Film for Thought” is a cinematic event and experience created by local youth who worked in the Comox Valley Art Gallery’s Youth Media Project. The screening is in the Rotary Hall of the Florence Filberg Center on April 13. The screening will feature the work of the nine youth who participated in the thirteen-week program. Doors for the screening will be open at 6:30pm and screening will begin at 7pm. Free snacks will be provided.

Results are in: Comox Valley Water Treatment Project AAP passes

The Alternative Approval Process (AAP) for the Comox Valley Water Treatment Project is now finished. At the close of the AAP on March 16 at 4:30 pm, 31 eligible elector response forms were received. As fewer than 10% of eligible electors registered their opposition, the Comox Valley Regional District may now borrow up to $29 million to pay for some of the project costs. With this funding authorized, the District can continue moving the Water Treatment Project forward.

Youth and Reconciliation Gathering

On behalf of Bruce Carlos, District Principal, Aboriginal Education Services, School District #71 (Comox Valley) extends an invitation to the upcoming Reconciliation Gathering for Leadership Students

Several of our Aboriginal Education staff have organized a spectacular day for Secondary Leadership students next week (March 21). Former Chief Counsellor, Rob Everson, will be one of the speakers during this day. We have also secured a strong Aboriginal youth speaker from Vancouver, Valeen Jules, to inspire our youth.
