Slip into your greenest leprechaun leotard and mince on over to the Big Yellow Merville hall for the St Patrick’s Day Ultra Green Contra Dance onSaturday, March 24th. Green music, green humour, green beer, green gills.
The Funtime Fiddlers will pucker up and kiss the Blarney Stone as they pump out the jigs and reels for the highly popular contra dances. Lead by our own daffodowndilly dance caller, June, you’ll have a great time and a fun evening. All are welcome to attend this family friendly function.
If you can walk and appreciate an energetic evening, contra dancing is for you. Generally, there is a brief Contra Dance workshop right before the dance. From 7:00 to 7:29, June will introduce the lucky dancers to new moves as well as teach the basic moves.
At 7:30, the lucky, lyrical Funtime Fiddlers prance onto the stage, start the music and the gaiety begins. Single dancers and families are very welcome. Singles can pair up with anyone during the Contras and our Contra sets last about 15 to 20 minutes. In between the called Contra dances, we’ll play waltzes and reels; jigs and swing tunes. Wear a costume, win a Spot Dance prize, click your heels. The luck of the Irish will be with us at this kitchen party!
