The Comox Valley Art Gallery will be bustling with activities on Friday evening, Dec. 1, to celebrate the opening of its Winter Program and Christmas Craft Fair.
Warm cider, snacks and discounts will be offered during a drop-in reception from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be a make-art workshop guided by presenting artist Cynthia Minden, an artist talk at 7 p.m., and a cake party to honour CVAG’s volunteers.
The events are free and everyone is welcome.
CVAG’s Winter Program includes the 43 annual Christmas Craft Fair, an exhibiton by Denman Island-based artist Cynthia Minden in the CVAG Window Gallery, and a display of the design brief for art in the new North Island Hospital in the CVAG Community Space.
The annual craft fair features the work of more than 80 local and regional artists. This is the Comox Valley’s largest and longest-running Christmas Craft Fair.
The fair will run until Dec. 24. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
The Winter Program also features “look over look”, Cynthia Minden’s new installation of sculptures and mobiles. It will be presented in CVAG’s Window Gallery until Jan. 5.
“look over look” explores how people look, look over and overlook many prescient things in their lives.
Minden has explored woven form, mixed media and assemblage for many years. She often combines found objects and gathered natural materials in an examination of the human footprint on ecology.
At the Dec. 1 opening, Minden will guide an all-ages workshop on the art of cord-making. Visitors of all ages can attend an art-making station where they will be taught the simple process of making cordage from plant fibres.
Minden will give an artist talk at 7 p.m. Afterward, CVAG will honour and celebrate the contributions of the gallery’s volunteers with cake and refreshments.
CVAG is actively recruiting more volunteers, especially to help with the craft fair. If you would like to participate, call (250) 338-6211, e-mail email@example.com, or drop by the gallery at 580 Duncan Ave.Comox Valley Art Gallery
