There is an abundance of activity coming up at the Comox Valley Art Gallery, including the final “Make Art Wednesday” of the Summer, a Friday-night tour of Rita McKeough’s exhibitions, the return of the Youth Media Project, a call for submissions to the Christmas Craft Fair, and ticket sales for the fall film series.
The final “Make Art Wednesday” of the summer will take place August 30 at the CVAG plaza, 580 Duncan Ave in downtown Courtenay, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Inspired by Rita McKeough’s exhibitions, “Veins, Listen, and Cul-de-sac”, participants in this all-ages workshop will be guided in the construction of creative bird houses, using recycled materials.
The workshop is free and open to everyone. It is lead by CVAG staff, and materials are provided.
On Friday, Sept. 1, there will be a guided tour of McKeough’s exhibitions at 6 p.m. McKeough is an interdisciplinary artist (Calgary/Nova Scotia) who has gained an international reputation for her complex projects involving electronics, kinetics, audio and performance to choreograph diverse forms of communication embedded in nature and new technology.
Throughout the summer, CVAG stayed open until 7 p.m. on Fridays in concert with Downtown Courtenay’s late market. This will be the final late opening of the Summer.
CVAG is now accepting applications for participants in the sixth session of the Youth Media Project. The project is open to people from 16 to 30 who face barriers to employment and are not full time students, employed, or in receipt of employment insurance.
The 13-week program provides wages to nine participants while they learns skills, produce videos, and take part in job placements. There will be an information session about the program For more send a message to email@example.com or call CVAG at (250) 338-6211.
It may still be August, but it’s already time to artists and artisans to think about the annual CVAG Christmas Craft Fair. The gallery is accepting applications from Sept. 5 to 30 for work the juried craft fair. Details and application forms can be found at the gallery’s website.
CVAG’s fall film series will screen five titles from the Toronto International Film Festival film circuit every second Sunday starting Sept. 17. The titles have not all been confirmed yet, but the series will open with a screening of “Maudie” on Sunday, Sept. 17.
